About Us​

The Friends of the Tyler Public Library is an all-volunteer organization that empowers a vibrant community by supporting the library as a place to read, work, learn, create, congregate, and share ideas. 

The nonprofit organization funds and supports more than 70 programs and events each year. 

Our Mission

The Friends of the Tyler Public Library provide community events and activities throughout Tyler and at the library. They include:

  • Protecting Pieces of the Past by donating $40,000 to the Local History & Genealogy department for new archival shelving and digitizing equipment to preserve original manuscripts, maps and pictures of Tyler’s early history
  • Purchasing 10 Dell laptop computers for use in the library and to teach computer classes for beginners.
  • Enhancing children’s story time activities & supplies
  • Reading programs & prizes
  • Adding Spanish language materials
  • Makerspace experiences
  • Special speakers & performers
  • Programming supplies
  • 3D printer & supplies
  • 1st & 3rd floor public copiers, including free scan to USB service
  • Library upkeep
  • Creating family and recreational spaces within the library
